About the Doctors
Dr. Amy Crockett
was born in Seattle, Washington, raised in the cornfields of Indiana and a graduate of Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1982. I decided in second grade to become a Veterinarian even though at the time it was a male dominated profession. I completed my pre-veterinary requirements in two years and received my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree four years later. My first year in practice was in Fort Lauderdale, Floridawhere I contemplated further education in Oncology. This field of work , finding a cure for cancer, has remained a passion of mine over the years. In the Fall of 1983, I moved to Connecticut to be closer to my brother inFramingham, MA and enjoy the coastline of New England. I purchased theNorwichtown Veterinary Hospital in 1985 and have remained there ever since. I served on the Connecticut Veterinary Medicine Association board as Assistant Treasurer for many years and was its President in 1999-2000 at the millennial shift.
My surgical skills have expanded over time and I enjoy many orthopedic and soft tissue procedures including the repair of a very common injury called ACL rupture or anterior cruciate ligament tear. A common sports injury in people. Writing is also one of my favorite hobbies, which has lead to the publication of two books so far. The first, “Be My Words” is a collection of animal poems based upon actual cases, published in 1998. The second, “The Thread Faery” published in 2011 memorializes two local victims of the tragic9/11/2001 as a beautiful faery tale.
Every animal is a unique and unequaled companion and it is my life long passion to care for every beautiful soul with a balance of expertise, compassion and a deep desire for their physical and emotional wellbeing.
Dr. Kathleen O’Hara
received a B.S. in Animal Science from the University of Connecticut in 1984. After a hiatus from school, she obtained her M.S. in Veterinary Science from Oregon State University in 2001, which focused on immunology and toxicology. She went on to graduate from OSU in 2005 with her D.V.M.
During her hiatus, she worked with animals in a variety of capacities. This work ranged from milking cows and goats in Connecticut to rehabilitating wildlife in Oregon. The most "far flung" endeavor was the time she spent in the Philippines as a Peace Corps volunteer. There she worked with the farmers' association to improve agricultural techniques, including improvement of goat husbandry. Although not currently working with goats, they remain her favorite large animal.
