After graduating from Purdue University in Indiana with a degree in veterinary medicine in 1982, she moved to Connecticut in 1983. She has been at Norwichtown Veterinary Hospital since then and began running the hospital in 1985. Beginning in 1987, she served as treasurer of the CVMA (Connecticut Veterinary Medical Association) for six years.
